Pre-DP applicant with a foreign certificate
Pre-DP (year 10) is for those who were born in 2010-2012 and who will have been in school at least nine years in August 2027. Every applicant must go through the Finnish national secondary level application procedure (joint application at Studyinfo.fi) between 16 Feb - 16 March, 2027 (the application closes at 15.00 Finnish time). When filling in the online form at Studyinfo, do NOT choose Finnish school leaving certificate if you don’t have one. Instead, apply as a discretionary applicant (=harkinnanvarainen).
In addition, the applicants fill out our application form and their school fills out our appraisal form and sends it together with the applicant's latest school report in English to ib.admissions@vantaa.fi by March 16, 2027. The name of the pdf file should include applicant's first name and last name.
Pre-DP applicants with a foreign certificate do not attend the entrance exam unless they have applied to both pre-DP and to DP1. Tikkurilan lukio has no quota for students applying with a foreign certificate but every applicant is individually considered.
International applicants should note our admission criteria:

We cannot admit underaged students who wish to move to Finland on their own without their families. We will assess the applicants’ need for a study place in Vantaa when we make admission decisions regarding international applicants. Tikkurilan lukio IB is not an upper secondary school for adults, and preparatory year students should be 15-16 years of age at the start of their studies.

We cannot admit students whose language profile is not compatible with the requirements of the IB Diploma programme.

We can only consider applicants whose academic prognosis, based on the application documents, meets the IB passing criteria in three years.
Study costs
The students pay for all material they need (such as schoolbooks and a laptop computer), unless they are entitled to receive upper secondary education free of charge. The right to upper secondary education free of charge applies to students who are required to attend compulsory education by Finnish law, typically those who finish comprehensive education in Finland.
Third-country nationals (=non-EU/EEA citizens) who are staying in Finland for the purpose of studying are not subject to compulsory education in Finland, which is why they must pay tuition fees. The tuition fees will be around 9000 euros / academic year (the exact amount tbc). In addition to the annual tuition fee, students will have costs for the purchase of learning materials and meals.
Language requirements
IB Diploma always requires two languages: a native level language and a second one (3-5 years of prior studies), or two native level languages. We offer English and Finnish at both levels. If you don’t have any command of Finnish, you can apply in case your native language is one of the languages listed below and you have sufficient skills to study your native language independently for final exams.
